MFP Tutorial Time Ch #16 Plant Material

This week  we have a new tutorial by Davi Reid on Tutorial Time on SpeedyTV.  Davi's tutorial is showing us how to use Plant Material to make homemade papers.  This is a GREAT technique!  I had never used this technique before and I am now addicted!

For my background paper I used fresh Pink Petunias and Tomato Leaves to make my images on watercolor paper and then I photographed the papers & saved to my computer so that I could print them.  I know that the originals will change colors and fade with time, so that's why I chose to save and print!

I know you were thinking I'd lost my marbles when I said I used PINK petunias, well here is a photo with the smashed flowers  and you can see that I got 2 different  layouts with each smashing because I sandwiched the flowers between 2 pieces of watercolor paper  The first px is after smashing before I brushed off the actual flowers.

SEE:
On the second picture I added an original flower next to it, crazy what the natural dies turn out like!

Now it's YOUR TURN!  Make a shaker card & enter into this week's challenge on Tutorial Time at SpeedyTV for your chance to win this stamp set from MFP:

MFP Tutorial Time Ch #15 Shaker Card by Lagene

OK kids This week's tutorial on Tutorial Time on SpeedyTV is brought to you by yours truely. I'll show you how to make a Shaker Card.
To see all the Design Team members' samples for this week's tutorial click on Tutorial Time Ch. #15 at SpeedyTV .

Here is my tutorial:

To start I used my Cuttlebug with Spellbinder’s Classic Scallop Circles Large and the
Classic Circles Large to cut out my frames and the clear plastic. (My plastic was recycled
From the lid of a box of cherry tomatoes from COSTCO.)
Lacy scallops die are pictured to the right, but I changed my mind because I didn’t feel they were sturdy enough on the edges for the frame & used Classic scallops like the one used on the base.

For the frames I used heavy weight paper from MFP a Heinrich’s Co. and then glued my colored cardstock on top of it.  Gluing the 2 layers together gives the shaker box more support. The dark green scallop for the base is a solid scalloped circle with the stamped image glued to it.

LETS GET STARTED:
The stack for the shaker goes like this:
1) Cut 2 large shapes for base & then glue them together. (mine is dark green dp on top of heavy weight MFP paper)
2) Cut out your stamped image the same size of your top frame.  Center and glue it onto the base.
3) Cut out craft foam frames the size of your top shape & glue 2 or 3 together to get enough depth for your items to shake. As you can see in the picture below.  I taped circle dies together to cut the foam and that gave me 3 different size spacer frames for different projects.  I did the same thing again and then glued the same size spacer frames together for my shaker box.

The px on right shows How I glued 3 rings together to accommodate thicker shakers.

4)  Glue this spacer frame stack on top of your base & give it time to dry before adding beads or confetti etc.

5) Cut out 2  shapes for the top window frame & glue together, give time to dry before next step.

6) Cut out the center of the top window frame shape you made in step 5...(since it is 2 thicknesses you may have to run through your Cuttlebug once then flip it over & you can see the indention of the cut on the back side, just line up your die & run it through again, or you can use an exacto knife to finish cutting through)

7) Cut your acetate or plastic the same size & shape of your top window frame.

8) Glue the acetate or plastic shape to the back side of the top window frame you just made. (I used E 6000 glue for the plastic, give time to dry)

9) After securely glued, place your shaker pieces inside the well on your base shape  inside the foam spacer frame and add glue to the top of your foam spacer frame & place the framed plastic on top.  (I carefully place a weight on top, carefully balanced so nothing slides & give ample time to dry)

WALA there you have your shaker box to add to any type card you like.
I added mine to a circular side step card.

Now it's YOUR TURN!  Make a shaker card & enter into this week's challenge on Tutorial Time at SpeedyTV for your chance to win this stamp set from MFP:

Hello friends,
I was so excited when I won a stamp set at The Craft's Meow last month!  I chose Beautiful Spring by Nina B.  It has such a sweet butterfly & flower stamp.  So here is my first project using my new stamps!

I colored with Copics and stitched around my DP & around the inside die from Spellbinders called Labels 6.  I popped the butterfly up on a piece of craft foam that I traced with my butterfly & then cut out & glued to back of butterfly with Crafter's Choice Glue.

Today's card is inspired by THE CRAFT'S MEOW

I then cut out with Labels Eighteen by Sizzix.  I added bling by Darice.

MFP Tutorial Time Ch #13 Criss Cross Card

Welcome to the 13th Ch. on Tutorial Time at Speedy TV.  This week our wonderful Lois Bak has our tutorial for the "Criss Cross Card"  technique. Check out our DTs cards following this Tutorial at Tutorial Time on SpeedyTV Challenge #13.

For my card I made the insert by layering clear recycled heavy packaging (to make the top firm so that the laminating machine wouldn't Curl & Eat the top portion of insert that didn't have cardstock to the end)  BUT FIRST I stamped the fruit bowl and chef on white CS & colored with Copics, Then I  made a reverse image by stamping on my Stampa-a-ma-jig and transfering onto white CS by placing stamped side onto the paper & pressing firmly with a brayer (I did have to go over my image outline with a sharpie pen).  I colored both with Copics also & cut both images out and glued together so both sides were colored, I stamped Celebrate BIG! on both sides of yellow CS & heat embossed with black. Then I inserted into laminating sheets & sent through the heat laminator.  See the back of my card with the insert to the right. I used ribbon for my belly band with  the sentiment cut out with Sizzix  "Have a great Day"  Framelits (arrow).

Now its your turn,  follow the Criss Cross Tutorial at SpeedyTV and you could win this stamp set:

by Tammylee.  Click on the link above to see this week's challenge & wonderful samples by the Design Team.

For my card I used  the stamp set from Mark's Finest Papers a Heinrichs Co. called Silly Shells

(2012 c41) Use 1 Stamp for Focal and Background GinaK Designs

The  rose stamp is from A Year of Flowers by Melanie Muenchinger.  You can find the stamp set at GinaK Designs at StampTV.
The sentiment is from Friendship's Garden by Asela Hopkins also at GKD.

I started by stamping the rose with a light pink  on the pink background paper, then I took cherry red & stamped the same rose on the yellow background.  I stamped the focal rose 3 times on watercolor paper in red & then colored with 3 shades of red with Copic Markers.  Then I cut out sections of petals and curled them & added dimensional glue to layer on top of each other.  I also gave the leaves dimension by rubbing the back side with a large tipped embossing tool. (this is how I "curled" the rose petals too)
I'm editing on Thursday Aug 9

Welcome to Tutorial Time at SpeedyTV
Challenge #10
"Diagonal Double Pockets"

For my card I used the camel colored cardstock that had a lighter color on the back (you can see in the center pocket) Just to change it up a bit I just cut out a strip of the animal print DP to cover the front panel, otherwise the front would have looked the same as the 2nd pocket.  For my images I used the new stamp set  Be Wild and Free.   I simply stamped with Versamark & heat embossed with black EP.

Challenge #7  featuring Davi Reid
with her tutorial for
Cracked Glass
First, this is a sneek peek of one of 5 stamp sets to be released next week at Mark's Finest Papers a Heinrichs Co.

This is my card following the Cracked Glass Tutorial method found on the Tutorial Time at SpeedyTV's tutorial challenge this week.
(Actually this is the second one I made, the 1st production was wonderful until adhearing to my cardbase....See the post below this one  with some DO'S & DON'TS for this method with pictures to show the difference!)

Now it's your turn, follow the tutorial and show us your cracked glass project!

Cracked Glass Technique, What not to do!

First, this is a sneek peek of one of 5 stamp sets to be released next week at Mark's Finest Papers a Heinrichs Co.

This week on Mark's Finest Papers SpeedyTV we had a Tutorial on making Cracked glass.
You can see the tutorial at http://mfpspeedytv.ning.com/page/tutorial-time-on-speedyt
When you get there click on  Challenge #7 - 2012   Oh yes and don't forget to join in on the Challenge & you could win the stamp set that is in my post above this one!
This is my second attempt at this technique (I Love this technique!)
So my first card looked just like this one except for a few things I discovered I shouldn't do, I'll show you my
 Dos & Don'ts.

As they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so look at the picture of the comparison below.
Do use heavy cardstock                          If you use lighter weight cardstock then
Do use dye ink for crisp image                     Don't use quick dry clear glues.
Don't heat emboss the images                                                                                                   before doing the Cracked Glass Technique.

Here is a picture of another project using Mark's Finest Papers 140 pound premium cardstock and I used Helmar's 450 clear glue.  As you can see there was not an issue with bleeding through the paper.
One more hint: After going over your "cracked heat embossed image with die ink to get into the cracks, to take off the excess ink from the surface: first swipe the surface with a dry paper towel or soft cloth & then swipe with a soft cloth that has alcohol on it, that will remove the excess ink from the embossed surface.  (my pepper image was quite pink all over before the alcohol cleaning)
Good luck in your endeavors.
